This is an experimental slow speed (30 rpm) electrical recording, made for an experimental pre-recorded radio broadcast which aired on September 11, 1928 on WAAM, Newark, New Jersey. WAAM began broadcasting on April 10, 1922 and eventually became WNEW, located first in Newark New Jersey, before eventually moving to New York City. This recording is a good example demonstrating the origins of radio culture and its intrinsic relationship with advertising, which later crossed over into television.
